  • REMINDER: The deadline for updating systems per the new symbology-compliant clearing technical specifications is Monday, May 3, 2010.
  • NASDAQ OMX reminds customers of the order entry, clearing and market data technical specification changes to enable trading of up to 8-characters announced in Equity Technical Update #2010-3 and Data Technical News #2010-7.
  • NASDAQ OMX will postpone implementation of a new suffix symbology plan announced in Equity Trader Alert #2010-11.

What is changing?

As announced in Equity Technical Update #2010-3 and Data Technical News #2010-7, NASDAQ OMX is moving forward with changes to order entry, clearing and market data technical specifications for both The NASDAQ Stock Market® and NASDAQ OMX BXSM (BXSM) to enable trading of symbols of up to 8-characters. Firms must obtain the updated technical specifications from the NASDAQ OMX Trader® website and prepare their systems to accept the changes prior to Monday, May 3, 2010.

NASDAQ OMX will postpone implementation of a new suffix symbology plan announced in Equity Trader Alert #2010-11. This effort has been put on hold until a common suffix table can be established. NASDAQ OMX’s suffix symbology changes will be dependent upon the industry-wide effort. While the timing of the implementation of a common suffix symbology is unknown, NASDAQ OMX intends to provide adequate time for firms to update their internal and external systems.
