NASDAQ OMX Announces Administrative Changes Related to the Launch of NASDAQ OMX Global Index Data Service

What you need to know:

  • As announced in Data News #2008-95, NASDAQ OMX launched the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Data Service (GIDS), a consolidation of existing NASDAQ OMX index and ETF products.
  • Effective February 2, 2009, GIDS fees have been equally applied to all data feed recipients of all NASDAQ Stock Market index content, including the NASDAQ Index Dissemination Service (NIDS).
  • The pricing changes will be applied on the invoices dated March 7, 2009.
  • NASDAQ OMX expects to retire the NIDS datafeed product in the third quarter of 2009.

What is the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Data Service?

As announced in Data News #2008-95, NASDAQ OMXSM launched the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Data ServiceSM (GIDSSM), a consolidation of existing NASDAQ OMX index and ETF products, in December 2008.This new premier service gives firms access to all NASDAQ OMX global index and derivative product valuation data in a single outbound data stream.

This premier data service consolidates NASDAQ OMX index data and ETF valuation data that have previously been available separately from the following NASDAQ OMX markets:

  • The NASDAQ Stock Market®
  • NASDAQ OMX PHLX®
  • NASDAQ OMX Nordic Exchange
  • NASDAQ OMX Baltic Exchange

How is the NASDAQ Index Dissemination Service (NIDS) affected?

NASDAQ OMX expects to retire the NIDS datafeed product in the third quarter of 2009.

What are the fees for GIDS?

In developing pricing for GIDS, NASDAQ OMX’s goal was to keep costs fair for all market data distributors as well as to promote widespread distribution of real-time data to the public. These fees bring the product offering in line with other major index providers while still providing a low-cost solution:

Will firms that subscribe to the current NASDAQ Index Dissemination Service (NIDS) be affected?

Yes. Beginning February 2, 2009, GIDS fees have been equally applied to all data feed recipients of all NASDAQ Stock Market index content, including the NIDS data. NASDAQ OMX will assess the GIDS fees to data feed recipients that receive the data directly via NASDAQ or an extranet provider, or indirectly via a retransmission vendor. Firms receiving the NIDS data during the transition timeframe will be assessed the GIDS fees as of February 2, 2009.

The pricing change will be applied on the invoices dated March 7, 2009.

Please note that stand-alone terminal customers are not affected by this change.

Will firms that subscribe to other index products be affected?

Yes. The following table details how firms’ invoices will be affected.

GIDS or NIDS + NASDAQ Index Weightings and Components DataFirms receiving both GIDS and the NASDAQ Index Weightings and Components data will only be liable for the GIDS fees as of February 1, 2009.
Non-GIDS Nordic Index Data or Baltic Index DataFirms receiving Nordic and Baltic index data products via products other than GIDS will continue to pay the rates associated with the non-GIDS product.

How will my firm's usage reporting be affected?

Effective February 2, 2009, the following usage reporting changes will take effect:

  • Organizations receiving only NASDAQ index data via NIDS or GIDS and distributing the data externally will need to begin to submit monthly usage reports.
  • Organizations receiving NASDAQ index data via NIDS or GIDS, and also subscribing to PBOT Index data or NASDAQ Index Weightings and Components data will only need to submit monthly usage reports for the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service. Such firms may cease submitting usage reports for PBOT Index data or NASDAQ Index Weightings and Components data.
  • Organizations receiving the following non-GIDS and non-NIDS data products should continue to submit usage reports, as usual:
    • PBOT Index Data
    • NASDAQ Index Weightings and Components Data

NASDAQ OMX has automatically affected all changes on your organization’s account.
