What you need to know:

  • As announced in Data News #2010-031, effective close of business on Friday, April 1, 2011, NASDAQ OMX® will modify its data delivery and access policies related to index weightings data to conform to industry standards.
  • In an effort to create a direct relationship with those firms using index weightings data, NASDAQ OMX will require firms to establish a direct relationship with NASDAQ OMX for the receipt and use of index weightings information.
  • NASDAQ OMX has developed a new online application system streamlining the approval request for firms requiring access to the weightings information on a controlled product such as a standalone terminal.
  • In order to continue receiving NASDAQ OMX index weightings data, firms must submit the Global Index Watch Approval Request via our new online system by Friday, April 1, 2011.

What is the new online system?

The Global Index Watch Approval System was created for firms and end-users as an easy way to obtain approval to receive index weightings information from an authorized data provider and to establish a direct relationship with NASDAQ OMX.

The system provides a drop down menu of the approved data providers that offer such index data on controlled services such as standalone terminals. This list will be updated to accurately reflect the data providers approved by NASDAQ OMX as resellers of our index weightings data.

How will a firm or an individual end-user access index weightings data from NASDAQ OMX as of April 4, 2011?

In order to continue receiving NASDAQ OMX index weightings data on a controlled product such as a standalone terminal, firms must submit the Global Index Watch Approval Request via our new online system by Friday, April 1, 2011.

NASDAQ OMX is working closely with the data providers that offer controlled terminals so that clients can continue to have a wide variety of delivery options. Firms are encouraged to use the new online system as soon as possible to ensure continued service after April 4th.

NASDAQ OMX is proud to partner with our Elite Index Data Partners — Factset, Infront AS, Netik and RIMES — who offer the full suite of NASDAQ OMX index weights data.

How do I sign up using the new Global Index Watch Approval Request Form?

Once the simple, one-page request form is submitted, the system will direct clients to an online version of NASDAQ OMX Global Subscriber Agreement, which must be accepted.

How does the approval process work?

After both the Request Form and the Agreement are submitted online, NASDAQ OMX will review the request. Upon approval, NASDAQ OMX will send an approval email to both the subscriber and the data provider. Once the approval is received, the data provider is authorized to provide the approved index data to the subscriber.
