What are the recent and upcoming improvements to GIDS?

Nasdaq disseminates over 40,000 Indexes and 750 ETF Valuation data points on its GIDS feed. Since the last pricing change, Nasdaq has created a global family of indexes, broken down by region, country, and Industry Classification Benchmark (ICB) sector, which highly collaborates to leading indexes in the market.

Over the past few years there has been a drastic expansion on the number of tradeable indexes added to the GIDS feed. 2015 has seen the addition of over 500+ Indexes and ETFs IPV, and there are now a total of 153 Global Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) tracking Nasdaq indexes with over $100 billion in AUM. Nasdaq continues down this path of increasing the value of GIDS by adding more ETPs licensed to Nasdaq indexes. The following Index families are available on GIDS that have significant Industry adoption.

Index Family Description Current AUM
Dividend and Income Index Family Largest providers of dividend-themed indexes in the world $24 Billion
Dorsey Wright Index Family Leader in Technical Analysis and Relative Strength $8 Billion
BulletShares Indexes Corporate & High Yield Corporate bond indexes $6.5 Billion
AlphaDEX Index Family Growth and Value factors $1 Billion
KBW Financial Index Family Targeted exposure to each individual financial sector $948 Million
Commodity Index Family 10 sector indexes and single indexes based on 33 different futures-based commodities $306 Million

Additionally, Nasdaq completed a technology update to ensure the feed continues to achieve a high level of performance and resiliency and also enables the feed to be available and open during the Asia Pacific market hours. Clients can now also connect to an additional multicast connection, offering firms an alternative redundancy option, for data continuity.

In 2016, GIDS will support Exchange-Traded Managed Funds, (ETMFs). These are a hybrid of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and actively managed mutual funds. They feature lower costs and more tax benefits than actively managed funds, but holdings only need to be disclosed monthly or quarterly. GIDS will populate an Intraday Indicative Value (IIV) for ETMFs.

In 2016, Nasdaq will be introducing a new index interface to capture index data from third-party data partners. The service, will, allows firms to connect to Nasdaq via an Application Programming Interface (API) or direct peer-to-peer connection. Firms will be able to send real-time and end-of-day information directly to Nasdaq who will in turn distribute it through one or several of its market-leading dissemination channels. This will further support third party index data and numerous different instruments will be disseminated directly from the GIDS feed so we expect continuous content expansion over the coming years.
