What you need to know:

  • Effective Monday, October 4, 2010, NASDAQ OMX® will introduce the following new Originator ID value in the message header of NASDAQ OMX Global Index Data ServiceSM (GIDSSM):
    • New Originator ID value of “O” Special Processing

What is GIDS?

GIDS is a premier data feed that consolidates index and ETF valuation data, as well as third party partner data offering real-time updates, daily summary messages and access to the most widely followed indexes and ETFs in the world.

Why is NASDAQ OMX adding a new Originator ID value?

As part of the NASDAQ OMX Global Access Program, NASDAQ OMX extends an exclusive opportunity to select firms to sell or distribute their data through our highly-specialized and comprehensive market data infrastructure. In select situations this may include the distribution of a firm’s data via multiple NASDAQ OMX distribution services resulting in data being disseminated on two data feeds simultaneously.

For index related data, NASDAQ OMX has received requests from data recipients to provide additional information, on the GIDS data feed, when an index is disseminated simultaneously on multiple NASDAQ OMX data feed products for Global Access clients.

What modification is being made to the Originator ID field within the message header?

Effective Monday, October 4, 2010, NASDAQ OMX will introduce a new Originator ID of “O” Special Processing value in the message header of GIDS. This new value will be used to identify indexes that appear within the GIDS data service and may also be contained within a Global Access client data feed. It is intended to assist data recipients in identifying index data that may be duplicative and allow for the data recipients to filter out this data from the GIDS data service.

How will this modification impact GIDS?

Effective October 4, 2010, this value will be used to identify those Russell real-time indexes that appear on multiple products supported by NASDAQ OMX, such as GIDS and RussellTick. Upon initial release, the new Originator ID value will be used to identify the Russell indexes on GIDS.

What changes do I need to make for the new Originator ID value?

Firms processing the GIDS data feed product should review their internal processes to add the new Originator ID value of “O” to properly identify indexes that are subject to special processing and determine any impact this may have on downstream data services.

Please Note: While this is being introduced initially for support of Russell Indexes on GIDS it is NASDAQ OMX’s intention to use this for other special processing situations in the future with limited notice. As such, data recipients should be prepared to process this new value.
