Why is the new field being added to Symbol Directory files?

As announced in Head Trader Alert #2007-205, NASDAQ OMX has entered into an agreement to acquire the Boston Stock Exchange. In anticipation of the acquisition, which is subject to approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission, a new field will be added to the Market Participant Symbol Directory and downloadable files on the NASDAQTrader.com website as well as the FTP downloadable files. Following the closing of the acquisition, NASDAQ OMX plans to rename the Boston Stock Exchange "NASDAQ BX".
