What is the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Watch?

NASDAQ OMX Global Index Watch (GIW) is a new service providing full access to more than 2,000 NASDAQ OMX index offerings globally. It is a valuable tool for investment professionals who track NASDAQ OMX indexes or trade products based on those indexes.

GIW is the next generation of the NASDAQ Index Watch service. NASDAQ OMX continues to leverage its global synergies through consolidation of its distinct market brands and brings these synergies to our clients. GIW provides clients with a consolidated solution to receive valuable index information and access to NASDAQ OMX global index offerings via an easy-to-use web interface. GIW provides important index data for NASDAQ OMX indexes via an easy-to-use web interface including:

  • Data from NASDAQ, PHLX, Nordic and Baltic indexes
  • Tracks daily changes to the composition and weightings
  • Reports advanced notice of Corporate Actions for selected indexes
  • Historical data including:
    • Index values
    • Composition
    • Weighting
    • Divisors

Will firms that subscribe to the current NASDAQ Index Watch and NASDAQ Weighting & Components web services be affected?

Yes. Effective January 2, 2009, in order to facilitate a smooth transition, the current Index Watch service will continue until retired. However, advance notifications of corporate actions and component changes will no longer be updated on current Index Watch. NASDAQ OMX will not enhance the current Index Watch service and we encourage subscribers to upgrade to the new Global Index Watch Premier service level.

Additionally, NASDAQ OMX plans to retire the current NASDAQ Index Weightings and Components service in the first quarter of 2009.

What is the Global Index Watch fee structure?

NASDAQ OMX offers two levels of service to accommodate customer needs. The Basic service provides access to Global Index Watch via a web interface and includes current year historical information, index holdings, daily summary statistics, industry breakdown and index methodologies. The Premier service is accessible via a web interface or FTP, and includes all of the Basic information, plus advanced notice of corporate actions and complete historical information.

NASDAQ OMX Information, LLC will offer the following entitlement for this new service:

  Nordic/Baltic Index Content
Internal Distributor Fee
US Index Content
Internal Distributor Fee
US Index Content
External Distributor Fee
Basic $ 750 monthly $ 2,000 monthly $ 5,000 monthly
Premier $ 1,100 monthly $ 3,000 monthly $ 10,000 monthly

How will the Global Index Watch fee be administered?

Distributor Fee assessments are applied based upon the organization's use of the data. The Internal Distributor Fees will be charged when a distributor utilizes the data solely within its own organization. Payment of the Internal Distributor Fee allows a distributor to provide the data to internal subscribers only.

The External Distributor Fee will be charged when data is distributed to external end users/ subscribers or the data is distributed outside the organization. Distributors using the data both internally and externally shall be liable only for the External Distributor Fee. An organization will only be liable for either the Internal or External Distributor Fee, but not both.

Payment of the External Distributor Fee allows a distributor to provide the data to internal subscribers as well as to all of its external controlled/stand alone terminal subscribers. This includes end-user subscribers but does not include uncontrolled distribution of the data, such as distribution to retransmission data feed subscribers.

What forms must I complete to be granted access to the Index Watch offering?

To order a stand alone terminal/controlled display product containing GIW Service, end users or end user firms need to contact their market data vendor.
