NASDAQ OMX Weekend Testing Dates for Global Index Service

What you need to know:

  • As announced in NASDAQ Vendor Alert #2008-054, NASDAQ OMX plans to introduce a proprietary data feed, NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service which will carry real-time index and Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) valuation data from all NASDAQ OMX markets, including The NASDAQ Stock Market, NASDAQ OMX PHLX, NASDAQ OMX Nordic Exchange and NASDAQ OMX Baltic Exchange in a standardize data format.
  • The NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service is designed to facilitate better trading performance and portfolio valuation due to the increased frequency of dissemination.
  • The Global Index Service is a value-added product for firms that wish to receive the full complement of NASDAQ OMX global index and ETF data, designed to provide lower administrative costs and technology costs than taking the products separately.
  • In preparation for the November 17, 2008, launch of the Global Index Service, NASDAQ OMX has announced weekend testing dates for the new consolidated data feed on Saturday, November 8th and Saturday, November 15th.

What is the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service?

As announced in NASDAQ Vendor Alert #2008-054, the NASDAQ OMX Global Index ServiceSM is a consolidation of existing NASDAQ OMXSM index and Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) products into a new data service. Offered as an alternative to the current individual data services, this new premier service offers firms access to all NASDAQ OMX global index and derivative product valuation data in a single outbound data stream.

This premier service will consolidate NASDAQ OMX indexes and ETF valuation data for the following NASDAQ OMX markets:

  • The NASDAQ Stock Market®
  • NASDAQ OMX PHLXSM
  • NASDAQ OMX Nordic Exchange
  • NASDAQ OMX Baltic Exchange

To facilitate the processing of the cross-market data, the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service will standardize the message formats for index and ETF values.

To learn more about the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service, refer to the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service specifications on the NASDAQ Trader® website.

Please note that NASDAQ OMX has made a minor format change to the ETF Directory message format since the original specification document was published. In order to facilitate the creation and distribution of ETFs comprised of foreign issues as well as in foreign currencies, the modified message format will include the following new fields:

  • Market of Origin
  • Currency

Please refer to the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service specifications for details on the revised ETF Directory message format. Please note that NASDAQ OMX will support the revised ETF Directory message as part of the initial data feed launch on November 17, 2008.

What is the testing schedule for the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service?

In preparation for the launch of the Global Index Service data feed, NASDAQ OMX is offering weekend testing opportunities on the following days:

  • Saturday, November 8, 2008
  • Saturday, November 15, 2008

To obtain access to the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service, firms must complete the following forms:

 

Firms that wish to process the direct NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service data feed must also contact an authorized connectivity provider to arrange for access to the NASDAQ OMX U.S. data centers. Please note that recommended bandwidth allocation for the NASDAQ OMX Global Index Service is 1 Megabit (Mb) per direct data center connection.
