NASDAQ OMX Announces Launch of MSCI EM and MSCI EAFE Index Options

What you need to know:

  • MSCI Emerging Markets (EM) Index Options (Options Symbol: EEMIQ) and The MSCI EAFE Index Options (Options Symbol: EAFEQ), began trading on NASDAQ OMX PHLXSM (PHLX®) on Tuesday, May 1, 2012.
  • UPDATE 6/4/12: Effective Monday, June 11, 2012, the MSCI Emerging Markets (EM) Index Options symbol will change from EEMIQ to MXEF and The MSCI EAFE Index Options symbol will change from EAFEQ to MXEA.
  • MSCI EM and EAFE Index Options are the only listed cash-settled options available in the U.S. on these major global indexes.

What is being announced?

On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, MSCI EM Index Options and MSCI EAFE Index Options began trading on PHLX. MSCI EM and EAFE Index Options are the only cash-settled options available in the U.S. on these major global indexes.

What is the MSCI EM Index?

The MSCI Emerging Markets Index is a free float-adjusted market capitalization index that is designed to measure equity market performance in the global emerging markets. Real-time codes can be found at:

What is the MSCI EAFE Index?

The MSCI EAFE Index is recognized as the pre-eminent benchmark in the United States to measure international equity performance. It comprises the MSCI country indices that represent developed markets outside of North America: Europe, Australasia and the Far East. Real-time codes can be found at:
