Upcoming Changes to Options Symbol Files on the NASDAQ OMX Trader Website

What you need to know:

  • In conjunction with the Conversion phase of the Options Symbology Initiative, NASDAQ OMX will modify the options symbol files on the NASDAQ OMX Trader website.
  • Effective Friday, February 12, 2010, The NASDAQ Options Market Symbol File, the NASDAQ OMX PHLX Symbol File and the NASDAQ OMX PHLX Strike Price File will be modified to include options root symbols.
  • Effective Tuesday, February 16, 2010, the Month Code and Strike Code fields will be removed from the NASDAQ OMX PHLX Strike Price file.

What is changing?

In conjunction with the Conversion phase of the Options Symbology Initiative, NASDAQ OMX® will modify the following options symbol files on the NASDAQ OMX Trader® website:

  • The NASDAQ Options MarketSM (NOM)
  • NASDAQ OMX PHLXSM (PHLX®)
  • PHLX Strike Price

How will the NOM file be modified?

Effective Friday, February 12, 2010, the Options Symbol field of the NOM Symbol File will be renamed “Root Symbol” and will contain the options root symbol. The NOM Symbol File is available via web and FTP server at the following addresses:

How will the PHLX file be modified?

Effective Friday, February 12, 2010, the Options Symbol field of the PHLX Symbol File will contain the options root symbol. There will be no name change to the Options Symbol field. The PHLX Symbol File is available via web and FTP server at the following addresses:

How will the PHLX Strike Price file be modified?

Effective Friday, February 12, 2010, the Symbol field of the PHLX Strike Price File will contain the options root symbol. There will be no name change the Symbol field.

Effective Tuesday, February 16, 2010, the Month Code and Strike Code fields will be removed from the PHLX Strike Price File.
