What you need to know:
- The “Enhanced Symbol Directory Message” (Category A – Type F) has been introduced within the Nightly Test Data as of yesterday, July 13, 2026.
- As announced in UTP Vendor Alert #2026-15 UTP SIP will introduce an “Enhanced Symbol Directory Message” (Category A – Type F) in support of new releases starting in Q4 2026. This message will be sent alongside the current Symbol Directory Message (Category A – Type B). As a reminder, on June 11, 2026, the SEC further extended the temporary exemptive relief from the industry compliance dates for Regulation NMS MPI Tick Rule until the first business day of November 2027.
- In preparation for this release the UTP SIP will participate in three weekend production tests:
- Saturday, September 19, 2026
- Saturday, September 26, 2026; and
- Saturday, October 3, 2026, confidence test
What is Changing?
As announced in UTP Vendor Alert #2026-15 UTP SIP is introducing a new Enhanced Symbol Directory Message (Category A – Type F) in support of new releases starting in Q4 2026. Please refer to this previously published vendor alert for more detailed information about the new message.
This new message will be disseminated alongside the existing Symbol Directory message (Category A – Type B). UTP intends to retire the existing Issue Symbol Directory Message (AB) sometime in the first quarter of 2027. A UTP Vendor notice will be issued prior to its retirement. Until that time, firms should be prepared to support both messages.
When will the Enhanced Symbol Directory Message be implemented?
Effective October 5, 2026, the new enhanced symbol directory message (Category A – Type F) will be disseminated in production alongside the existing symbol directory message (Category A – Type B).
Will there be testing opportunities?
The UTP SIP plans to offer evening format testing, effective July 13, 2026, and Saturday testing opportunities for data feed subscribers prior to release to ensure that firms can process the enhanced directory message format.
