What you need to know:

  • Effective Friday, July 29, 2011, NASDAQ OMX PHLX will begin disseminating timestamp messages for TOPO and TOPO Plus Orders in nanoseconds.

When will NASDAQ OMX begin disseminating the nanosecond timestamp?

Effective Friday, July 29, 2011, NASDAQ OMX will modify the timestamp messages on the TOPO and TOPO Plus Orders data feeds to be disseminated in nanoseconds from the current milliseconds.

Why is the change being made to the timestamp messages?

In order to provide additional detail for subscriber firms that are utilizing the data feeds, NASDAQ OMX will begin disseminating the full nanosecond length of the timestamp.

Are any changes necessary?

No changes should be necessary by TOPO or TOPO Plus Orders customers. When the specification documents were originally created, they included a nanoseconds timestamp field with a 4 byte integer length. The only difference is that this field will begin to be utilized giving customers more transparency on timestamps.
