What is being announced?

NASDAQ OMX® will modify the transmission schedule for NASDAQ OMX BXSM (BXSM) and NASDAQ OMX PSXSM (PSXSM) proprietary data feeds. Effective Monday, June 2, 2014, NASDAQ OMX will move up the dissemination times of select control messages and pre-opening administrative spin processes by approximately three hours for BX and PSX data feeds.

This change affects the start-up time of the affected data feeds. There is not an extension of the pre-market trading hours for the BX and PSX markets. Real-time quote updates and trade messages will not be disseminated until the pre-market sessions commence for the respective markets:

  • BX – 07:00 A.M., Eastern Time (ET)
  • PSX – 08:00 A.M., ET

Please note: The extended pre-market trading change only impacts the NASDAQ OMX equity markets. The NASDAQ OMX options markets are not impacted at this time including NASDAQ OMX PHLXSM(PHLX®), NASDAQ Options MarketSM (NOM) and NASDAQ OMX BX OptionsSM (BX Options).

What data products are impacted?

To accommodate the new hours of operation, NASDAQ OMX will move up the dissemination times of select control messages and pre-opening administrative spin processes by three hours on the following data feeds:

  • NASDAQ OMX BX TotalView-ITCH (BX TotalView)
  • NASDAQ OMX BX Glimpse
  • NASDAQ OMX BX Quote Bid and Offer (BX BBO)
  • NASDAQ OMX BX Last Sale (BLS)
  • NASDAQ OMX PSX TotalView-ITCH (PSX TotalView)
  • NASDAQ OMX PSX Glimpse
  • NASDAQ OMX PSX Quote Bid and Offer (PSX BBO)
  • NASDAQ OMX PSX Last Sale (PLS)

What changes will be made to data feed messages?

  • Similar to The NASDAQ Stock Market® (NASDAQ®), BX and PSX will disseminate the Start-of-Messages Event (Type S, Event O) and Pre-Opening Administrative Message Spins (Type R) between 3:00 A.M. and 4:00 A.M., ET.
  • Heartbeat Messages* will be disseminated until each market opens.
  • To mark the start of trading hours, the System Open Event (Type S, Event S) will be disseminated at approximately:
  • NASDAQ OMX BX – 07:00 A.M., ET
  • NASDAQ OMX PSX – 08:00 A.M., ET

*Please refer to the MoldUDP64 technical specifications for details regarding the heartbeat messages.

Refer to the Market Data section of the NASDAQ OMX TraderĀ® website for the updated NASDAQ proprietary data feed transmission schedule.

Why is NASDAQ OMX making this change?

The early start of BX and PSX will better align NASDAQ OMX's three equity markets. Last year, the start-up time and pre-market hours were extended for The NASDAQ Stock Market. Although the pre-market hours are not being extended for BX and PSX, the earlier start of the data feeds will give customers additional time to test connectivity and identify issues before the pre-market sessions begin.
