What you need to know:

Effective Monday, April 12, 2021, Nasdaq, through its data dissemination relationship with IX Asia Indexes Company Limited, will send daily index level information on the Nasdaq Global Index Data Services (GIDS).

What are the new Indexes?

IX Asia Indexes Company Limited (‘IX Asia Indexes’) announced the launch of two new indexes: ixBitcoin Index (“IXBI”) and ixEthereum Index (“IXEI”) on April 12th. IXBI and IXEI are both single constituent indexes, aiming to track the performance of Bitcoin and Ethereum for both benchmark and tradeable purposes. IXCI is the flagship project of IX Asia Indexes, as well as the first crypto benchmark index launched in Hong Kong. The newly launched IXBI and IXEI together with the established IXCI will form a complete crypto index series, to facilitate different trading strategies and to promote liquidity. The new index launch is also in response to the growing demand for digital asset index products in the world. The IXBI and IXEI use the same inception date and base level as the ixCrypto Index (1,000 on 3 Dec 2018), providing investors and fund managers with a comparison of the performance of the three indexes, making it easier for them to design different long / short strategies, as well as selecting different weights of Bitcoin and Ethereum according to their fund requirements.

How are the Indexes disseminated?

Effective Monday, April 12, 2021, data recipients will receive real-time index information from the proprietary GIDS data feed with the following attributes:

Instrument ID Instrument Name Currency Frequency FP Type
IXEI ixCrypto Ethereum Index USD 15S I
IXBI ixCrypto Bitcoin Index USD 15S I

In addition to the real-time tick messages, Nasdaq will support the following directory messages on GIDS:

  • Equities Summary (Message Type F): Disseminated at the end of the U.S. and European trading session to relay the summary of the current trading day's activity for an equity index.
  • Index Directory (Message Type R): Disseminated at the start of each day to relay basic index information.
