What you need to know:

  • As outlined in Data Technical News #2010-3, Data Technical News #2010-7 and Data Technical News #2010-25, NASDAQ OMX® will retire the non-symbology-compliant versions of the The NASDAQ Stock Market® (NASDAQ®) and NASDAQ OMX BXSM (BXSM) data feeds at the end of this year.
  • To ensure uninterrupted access to NASDAQ and BX data, all direct data feed subscribers must make the transition to the new symbology-compliant versions by no later than December 31, 2010.
  • Please note that NASDAQ OMX will turn down the non-compliant versions of the NASDAQ and BX data feeds on December 31st even if the symbology initiative is postponed.

Which NASDAQ OMX data products are impacted by the mandatory migration?

As outlined in Data Technical News #2010-3, Data Technical News #2010-7 and Data Technical News #2010-25, all NASDAQ and BX direct data feed products are impacted by the symbology conversion. For the NASDAQ and BX markets, the data mapping is as follows:

What are the data differences between the legacy and symbology-compliant versions of the NASDAQ and BX data feeds?

In addition to the symbol field length difference, only the new versions of the NASDAQ and BX proprietary feeds support the Regulation SHO Price Test Restriction Indicator as well as the full range of Market Category field values for non-NASDAQ-listed securities.

When does NASDAQ OMX plan to move to support the longer issue symbols?

NASDAQ OMX is working with the Intermarket Symbols Reservation Authority (ISRA) to create a uniform suffix symbology plan for exchange-listed securities. Once the ISRA effort is complete, NASDAQ OMX will look to provide an update regarding its schedule.

Please note that NASDAQ OMX will retire its non-symbology-compliant versions of the NASDAQ and BX data feeds on December 31, 2010, regardless of the ISRA announcement.

If the equity symbology initiative hasn’t been put into place, will these legacy feeds still be retired on December 31, 2010?

Yes. Although the ISRA symbology plan may not be in effect, NASDAQ OMX will cease to support the legacy NASDAQ and BX data feeds on December 31, 2010. To ensure uninterrupted access to NASDAQ OMX, direct data feed subscribers must complete their migration to the new data feed versions before the end of this year.

What happens if I cannot meet the December 31, 2010 deadline?

If your firm does not complete its migration to the symbology-compliant data feeds by year-end, you should expect to be without valuable NASDAQ and BX data on January 3, 2011.

Please contact your NASDAQ OMX Global Account Manager immediately if you foresee an issue with this deadline.

How do I order the symbology-compliant versions of the NASDAQ and BX data feeds?

To order the symbology-compliant versions of the NASDAQ and BX data feeds, existing distributors should complete the Data Feed Request Form online or in hard copy. In addition, firms should make the necessary arrangements to connect to the new data feed version in the NASDAQ OMX – U.S. data centers (co-location facility, extranet or direct connectivity provider).
