NASDAQ OMX to Support Price Improvement Indicator on BX Equities Data Feeds, Effective September 29, 2014

Effective Monday, September 29, 2014, NASDAQ OMX BX will begin to support the Price Improvement Indicator (PII) Message on the following NASDAQ OMX BX order and quotation data feeds:

  • BX TotalView-ITCH 5.0
  • BX Best Bid and Offer (BX BBO) 2.0

What is changing?

Effective Monday, September 29, 2014, NASDAQ OMX BX (BX) will support the Price Improvement Indicator (PII) Message on the new versions of the NASDAQ OMX BX proprietary order and quotation data feeds.

Note: The PII message format is identical in format to the Retail Price Improvement Indicator on The NASDAQ Stock Market proprietary order and quotation data feeds.

What NASDAQ OMX data feeds will support the new Price Improvement Indicator (PII) message?

The PII message (Message Type ‘N') will be supported on the following NASDAQ OMX proprietary data feeds only:

  • BX TotalView-ITCH 5.0
  • BX Best Bid and Offer (BX BBO) 2.0

NASDAQ OMX will not add the PII message to the BX TotalView-ITCH 4.1 or BX BBO 1.1 data feeds as the services are scheduled to be retired on Friday, September 26, 2014. For more information on the BX proprietary data feed migration, please refer to Data Technical News #2014-09.

The PII release will be hot-cut to the new versions on Monday, September 29, 2014.

Where can I find the updated proprietary data feed specifications?

Please refer to the Global Data Specifications page on the NASDAQ OMX Trader® website for the most recent version of the U.S. Equities data feed interface documents. For your convenience the new revised technical specifications are also provided below:

When will test opportunities for the PII messaging be available?

NASDAQ OMX BX plans to conduct three Saturday User Acceptance Test (UAT) opportunities for the new PII functionality and messages for market participants and market data vendors. The scheduled UAT dates are:

  • Saturday, July 12, 2014
  • Saturday, August 9, 2014
  • Saturday, September 13, 2014

NASDAQ OMX will also disseminate test data on Saturday, September 27, 2014 for clients cutting over to the new data feeds, although it will not be a formal UAT.

Will BX Equities also send the PII to the consolidated securities information processors (SIPs) for dissemination?

Yes. BX Equities will use the Retail Interest Indicator field on the UTP Quotation Data Feed (UQDF) and Consolidated Quotation System (CQS) data feed. For details on the SIP messaging, please refer to the UQDF and CQS specification documents.
