Data Technical News #2017 - 15
UPDATE: Nasdaq Announces Disaster Recovery Connections for MFDS Data Feed Migrating to Chicago on Monday, October 9, 2017

What you need to know:

As previously announced, Nasdaq is migrating its Disaster Recovery (DR) support for the Mutual Fund Quotation Service (MFQS) and associated Mutual Fund Dissemination Service (MFDS) to Chicago, IL. The revised timeline for the DR cut-over is now Monday, October 9, 2017.

This updated communication reflects changes with MFDS data dissemination from Chicago and how existing firms can request connectivity to the new IP Addresses of the MFDS data feed.

What is changing?

To enable distributors to leverage existing disaster recovery connections into Chicago, Nasdaq is relocating the MFQS and MFDS DR systems to Chicago, IL.

As part of the data center change, Nasdaq will change the IP multicast addresses for MFDS in both Nasdaq’s primary data center in Carteret, NJ and its DR data center in Chicago, IL. Direct data feed subscribers will need to update their MFDS network configurations to support the new IP addresses and DR connection on Monday, October 9, 2017. For both locations, the new IP addresses will be:

Purpose Multicast Group Multicast Port Source IP Address Multicast RP( Rendezvous Point)
Primary Multicast Channel A Stream
224.3.0.5 55354 206.200.162.1 207.251.255.35
Secondary Multicast Channel B Stream
224.3.0.15 55355 206.200.162.129 207.251.255.36

As previously noted, Nasdaq will not be migrating MFQS CTCI customers to the Chicago data center at this time. MFQS CTCI clients will continue to connect to the existing DR data center in Ashburn, VA. Nasdaq will, in turn, forward the MFQS CTCI traffic to the Chicago data center location.

While MFQS will be migrating the MFQS web-based services to Chicago, there is no client action required.

Will Nasdaq transmit live MFDS data from the Chicago location at all times?

Update 08/21/2017: Yes. Under normal conditions, the MFDS multicast groups originate from Nasdaq’s primary data center in Carteret, NJ and is also forwarded and transmitted out of the Chicago, IL data center. Firms will receive MFDS data from Nasdaq’s data center in Chicago, IL whether the data is originated in Carteret, NJ or Chicago, IL.

Setting up connectivity to new MFDS data?

Update 08/21/2017: MFDS subscribers who access the current MFDS data feed via an extranet provider need to contact their extranet provider directly to be provisioned for the new feed. When can I test the new MFDS connectivity?
