What you need to know:

As part of continuous improvement, the Nasdaq Mutual Fund Quotation Service (MFQS) is adding an additional field to the MFQS Daily List and Symbol Directory. On Monday, November 20, 2017, Nasdaq will add the Instrument Class field to the MFQS Daily List and Symbol Directory.

Additionally, between Q4 2017 through Q2 2018, Nasdaq will continue to add additional fields to help provide transparency to the Mutual Funds market through MFQS. These additional fields will be available on new reports.

What is changing?

The new field, to be added to the MFQS Daily List and Symbol Directory on Monday November 20, 2017, is:

Characters Value Purpose
Up to 50 characters alphanumeric
Instrument Class Nasdaq will provide all share class classifications in a standard format in a separate field. For existing instruments, current share classes will be assigned based on what MFQS currently has in the system.

The new field will also be supported on the Advanced and Next Day versions of the MFQS Daily List. The MFQS Daily List Specification has been updated. Please refer to the revised MFQS Daily List specification for additional details.

How do I get the new MFQS Daily List and Symbol Directory?

These reports are provided through access tokens. To get access to these new products, you will need to contact dataops@nasdaq.com.

How are the existing MFQS-listed instruments being populated?

Existing MFQS instruments will already be populated with the Instrument Class, where available. This information will be requested from the issuers for new instruments and instrument changes going forward. This is not a required field. If the Instrument Class is not provided, the value will be blank.

Why is Nasdaq making the change?

The change was made due to customer feedback for additional information for the instruments disseminated by Nasdaq. Increasingly requested by the industry, the change will provide additional transparency in one location which will be consolidated for consumption for our data vendors.

How can I test these changes?

Nasdaq has created sample files with the new field added for testing. Please use the hyperlinks below to access the MFQS files that your firm uses.
