What you need to know:

What is the NASDAQ Global Index Family?

The comprehensive NASDAQ Global Index FamilySM represents more than 98% of the global equity investable marketplace and will result in 24,000 indexes. This launch is an extension of NASDAQ OMX's growth as an innovative global index provider. NASDAQ OMX is offering this new family in conjunction with its new index calculation engine and anticipates that this will serve a growing need for accurate, cost-effective benchmark solutions.

The family uses transparent and rules-based selection criteria and consists of approximately 9,000 securities broken down by market segment, region, country, size and sector. The December 3rd launch includes approximately 4,000 indexes calculated in USD, covering all 9,000 securities.

Additionally, the indexes cover 45 individual countries classified as Developed and Emerging Markets across the following regions: 1.) Americas, 2.) Europe, 3.) Asia-Pacific and 4.) Middle East Africa. All indexes are calculated as Price Return, Total Return and Net Total Return and will be available in up to seven currencies.

The Developed Americas region includes the NASDAQ US All Market Index Family, a comprehensive U.S. equity benchmark covering more than 900 market capitalization-weighted, float-adjusted indexes including the flagship NASDAQ US All Market IndexSM (NQUSA).

How will the index values be disseminated?

Effective Monday, December 3rd data recipients will start to receive approximately 4,000 real-time, start-of-day and end-of-day index streams from the proprietary GIDS 2.0 data feed. Future phases will be announced in a later notice. For a list of the new indexes and data elements that will be disseminated via GIDS, please click here.

In order to support the extended 23/6 operational hours and global coverage, only the enhanced GIDS 2.0 feed will offer these new index values. NASDAQ OMX reminds firms that they must migrate from the legacy GIDS feed to GIDS 2.0 in order to receive this data. In addition, please note that legacy GIDS will be retired on December 28, 2012.

How will the components and weightings data be made available?

NASDAQ OMX will offer multiple new entitlements on GIW to support these indexes via a secure website interface. Additionally, we expect that the Global Family will be offered via our redistribution partners. Please contact NASDAQ OMX Global Data Products to discuss available entitlement and delivery options.

Will testing be available?

Yes, testing will be offered on GIDS on Saturday, November 10, 2012. Firms that would like to participate in the November 10th test should send an email to dataproducts@nasdaqomx.com.
