What you need to know:

  • Effective Monday, August 11, 2014, NASDAQ OMX will support test symbols on all Mutual Fund Quotation Service (MFQS) interfaces and reports.

What is changing?

To facilitate MFQS system resiliency, NASDAQ OMX will support test symbols on all Mutual Fund Quotation Service (MFQS) interfaces and reports beginning Monday, August 11, 2014.

NASDAQ OMX already supports test symbols on the MFQS inbound interfaces. As part of the August 2014 release, NASDAQ OMX will display test symbols on MFQS outbound interfaces and MFQS web reports to make it easier for pricing agent firms to verify data content. To clearly delineate test from production instruments, NASDAQ OMX will add a new field to the Mutual Fund Dissemination Service (MFDS) data feed and MFQS web-based reports.

How will the MFQS inbound message formats be impacted?

As noted above, NASDAQ OMX already supports test symbols on the MFQS inbound interfaces so there are no coding changes needed.

NASDAQ OMX updated the MFQS specifications to standardize field names only. For details, firms should download the MFQS Computer-To-Computer Interface (CTCI), MFQS Secured FTP Server and/or MFQS Web Batch Upload File specification documents.

How will the MFQS web files be changing?

As part of the August 2014 release, NASDAQ OMX will add a Test Symbol Flag field to the MFQS Daily List and MFQS Directory fields. NASDAQ OMX will also add a Status field to the Today’s Price History and Ex Date reports on the MFQS website. In addition, NASDAQ OMX will also standardize MFQS field names across web reports.

For the updated file layouts, please refer to the MFQS Web User Guide and MFQS Daily List specification. For samples of the MFQS Daily List files, refer to Data Technical News #2014-21. For a sample of the MFQS Today’s Price History report, please click here.

How can I request a MFQS test symbol?

MFQS pricing agent firms may request test symbols by completing the Test Symbol Request Form. To prevent the symbol proliferation, NASDAQ OMX plans to limit pricing agent firms to two test symbols per Instrument Type / Tier and Instrument Code combination. For more information, please contact NASDAQ OMX Mutual Fund Operations.

What testing opportunities will NASDAQ OMX offer for the MFQS and MFDS format changes?

NASDAQ OMX will conduct a MFQS user acceptance test (UAT) on Saturday, August 9, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Eastern Time.

Firms wishing to participate in the UAT should complete and submit the MFQS testing registration form to NASDAQ OMX Mutual Fund Operations by noon on Thursday, August 7, 2014.
